We learn how to use selection tool to remove the background of the Statue of Liberty
My method of background removing is to crop out as much back ground as possible with the regular selection tool (because the magic and other automatic selection tool take away too much of the picture and sometime the part I want to keep) After that I zoom in and use the eraser tool instead of the crop or selection tool. I find the automatic eraser tool much more efficient for picture with a clearly different color like this one than the other selection tool.
My other favorite too is the polygon lasso tool which is very use full when removing small detail or to produce shape and clear edge.
